Improve mental health

Anxiety and depression are on the increase in the developed world. These intertwined symptoms are a product of our minds attempts to stay safe and so cope better. Mindfulness softens these connections, reducing these affects.

Physical wellbeing

Some body pains and illnesses can be our bodies way of saying we are stressed. Regular mindfulness practices helps reduce stress on our nervous systems. Blood pressure and heart rate can also be reduced.

Emotional Well-being

When we are more self aware of our moment by moment reactions to life’s stresses, we create space for more options to appear for us. This has an immediate calming affect. We can day by day live more at ease with ourselves and others.

Most challenging for me has been one of the central concepts of mindfulness that ‘we are not our thoughts’. This seems totally counter to our western minds! Our thoughts are simply our best guesses as to what’s going on, which are in reality provisional and constantly open to re-assessment and re-evaluation. Did we always think and feel the same as a child, teenager, adult or older person? Of course not.
